매년 일본의 신건축에서 개최하는 센트럴글래스 공모전은 항상 급진적인 아이디어를 채택하는 건축 공모전으로 유명합니다. 이 해의 주제는 그 동네에 어울리는 동,면사무소!

우연히 예전 탄광촌 옆이었던 산척을 지나가다 멍하니 기찻길을 바라보시며 담소를 나누시는 할머니, 할아버지께 눈길이 갔습니다. 지금은 하루에 한번 정도 기차가 지나가는 마을이었죠. 여쭤보니 예전에는 한시간에도 몇번씩 기차가 다녔고, 그때는 마을에 사람들이 많았다는 말씀들을 하셨죠. 옛 이야기에 신이 나신 듯 했습니다. 기차는 이분들의 젊은 시절, 마을의 번성기를 대표하는 아이콘인 것이죠. 그럼 이분들을 위한 면사무소를 기차에 실으면 어떨까요?

기차가 면사무소가 되니 좋은점이 많아졌습니다. 지금은 이 마을들에서 40분을 차를 타고 산길을 달려가야 면사무소가 있습니다. 이제는 시간 맞춰 기찻길까지만 걸어 나오면 면사무소를 만날수 있죠. 마을을 오가는 수단이 되기도 합니다. 산새에 가려져 마을간 왕래가 거의 없던 곳에 교통수단이 하나 생긴 것이지요. 무엇보다 마을분들이 그리워하던 기차를 자주 볼 수 있습니다. 덕분에 면사무소도 주민들에게 훨씬 친근하게 다가갈 수 있을 것이고요.

Sanchok is a small town in Choongbook, South Korea. It used to supply woods as part of a mine industry of next region by logging. Coal and woods transported by rail through this town. Thanks to that, residents could earn money and lived better life. Now, the trains have rarely run on the railroad since mines were closed in 1988. However, it is still a symbol of people’s hope.

By planning the town hall in disused mine trains, it can remind people their nostalgia. It links between villages as a fast way to communicate. The town hall train has flexible function with extra compartment. Furthermore, to be ready to natural disasters, the train has a function of refuge.
